Concept

The realization of a hydrogen society is expected to contribute to reducing the effects of global warming and improving energy security.

Ammonia is the leading option for hydrogen energy carriers.

To establish a value chain that extends from the distribution of CO2-free ammonia to the use of it,

CFAA will dedicate itself to conducting studies on technological and economic assessment, developing policy proposals, and in promoting international collaboration.

Message from the President

Ammonia, a clean fuel that does not emit carbon dioxide upon combustion, can also serve as an effective energy carrier for the storage and transport of renewable energy. Consequently, the utilization of ammonia as a fuel is globally anticipated as an effective and immediate solution for achieving carbon neutrality.

In 2024, with national support and the significant efforts of stakeholders, numerous demonstration trials in Japan were successfully completed, demonstrating the feasibility of fuel ammonia to the world. On the other hand, many plans are underway globally for the production of blue ammonia and green ammonia, which aim to minimize carbon dioxide emissions during manufacturing. In parallel, with ongoing studies on transportation and storage, the development
of a value chain for clean fuel ammonia is steadily progressing.

President Nobuhiko Kubota

Looking ahead, Japan’s government policies based on the Hydrogen Society Promotion Act are expected to advance the social implementation of hydrogen and ammonia in Japan.

At the CFAA, we remain committed to continuous study for ensuring safety, advancing risk communication, and promoting a correct understanding and domestic utilization of fuel ammonia. Additionally, we aim to collaborate with related organizations overseas to establish international standards, enabling the appropriate utilization of fuel ammonia across various industries and regions globally. Through these proactive efforts, we aspire to contribute to global carbon neutrality.

Message from the President

President Nobuhiko Kubota

My name is Nobuhiko Kubota, and I am honored to assume the position of President of the Clean Fuel Ammonia Association (CFAA) in June 2025.
